Interruption (1)

By the time 7 o'clock came around Kandie was ready. It was freezing cold, but the alcohol blanket was starting to take shape around her. She stashed the rest of her Boston's in the bushes behind Jorrie Rae's and made her way down Mercy. After seeing nothing promising in the parking garage she caught eyes with the doorman at Wilshire Tower. From that point on she knew what she had to do. She got straight to the point with him. His tired, hesitant manner only made it more satisfying for her. The doorman claimed he was watching someone's cart and should probably stay with it. After inching closer and closer Kandie could see the quivering wrinkles in his forehead as she reached for her 5th button. He couldn't resist. She moved him into the bathroom down the hall and locked the door behind her. He didn't have to do much. Kandie seemed to always be willing to take care of everything for her men. Just when it seemed like things were finished the lights went out, the fan went off, and suddenly everything was quiet. This didn't stop Kandie from continuing. The doorman, however, stopped abruptly and walked out of the bathroom. Kandie took this personally.
Kandie made her way outside only to realize that the whole town was out of power. She meandered her way across the street to Last Stop. She went to the side of the bar and sat on the rotting wooden bench that was thrown next to the service road. The darkness was going to make eating an adventure for Kandie tonight. She pulled out her foil pouch and began to eat. She never knew what she was going to get. None of it was more than a week old, but not being able to see it made it less appetizing. A bight of chicken fried steak followed by key lime pie, then rice that had mixed with the creamed corn.
Kandie was getting cold and starting to sober up. As she passed by the Wilshire Tower to go back to her stash at Jorrie Rae's the doorman came calling after her. He wanted more. This is where Kandie takes advantage of her men. After five minutes the doorman agreed to buy her a new handle of Boston's and let her stay the night at his place. By 11 o'clock she was drunk again. This time the doorman was too. He followed Kandie all the way down Mercy, onto Katz, and into the Royal Motel. As usual room #12 was vacant and unlocked. Kandie loved this room. It had no windows or curtains, but it was free. Only very few dare go in this room. After kicking away the clothes on the bed from another's stay, Kandie continued where she left off in the bathroom. Then, once again, when things were finishing up, the two heard a loud scream. Even Kandie stopped to satisfy her curiosity. There lay a figure in the middle of Katz Ave. with a gray van stopped right in front of it. The night continued like every other night. Sleeting rain banging against the tin roof filled the background noise. The doorman lived up to his agreement with Kandie and took her back to his place in Wilshire Tower for the night. Kandie was once again gone before he woke up the next morning.

  1. That morning, Altan had returned the money he'd pilfered from the doorman to the doorman's desk drawer. Altan felt guilty for taking it after thinking that perhaps the poor man had probably just gone to the bathroom. Altan also left the $2.50 he'd made the previous day as thanks to the doorman for tending his cart.

    Jory Rae's

Gabriela's head hurt. It had for days. She felt like there was a gap running down the middle of her brain getting wider all the time. She tread lightly in her own thoughts. She was afraid to play the trumpet and terrified to stop. Three days after her last meal, she was passing Jory Rae's. She was sick with hunger and exposure. She fell, catching herself on the front window of the diner. A waitress, also staggering and bleary-eyed, came out and pulled her in. Gabriela smelled booze and coffee on her breath and felt long-nailed hands too dirty to serve food haul her to her feet. The stranger led her inside, took her to a booth, and, without a word, put a hot plate of fries down on the table. Bottom lip quivering, Gabriela ate them, one by one.

  3. The Pain of Beauty
"What can I get for you Renee?"

"Hey Kandie, can I get some of that cinnamon and raisin toast, and a side of hash browns.", I said almost choking on my words.

"Good Lord Renee!", yelled Kandie with a look of shock, "Don't I recall you telling me last week that carbs are the devil? You normally come in here ordering egg whites and an orange juice. You tryin' to gain some weight girl?"

"Bingo, you caught me", I lied with a fake laugh, "Do you mind rushing that order, I have an appointment?"

Kandie scowled at me as if what I asked was difficult, "Right Away", she said rolling her eyes and flairing her nostrils.

I absolutely dread these days. Apart from having to force feed myself breads and starches, I have to face my fears of getting a shot. I hate the sight of needles, especially when detouring through Shanty Town. I get nauseous. Even more terrifying is the shot will be administered by Aberdeen. God bless her soul but she is no nurse. The things one must do to achieve this illusion we call "Beauty".

  4. Macy ran blindly until someone threw a blanket over her head. She thought that someone was trying to suffocate her and wildly kicked until the person released her head.
"Jesus, honey, I was just trying to put the fire on your head out," said a woman.
"Oh," replied Macy. "Well then I thank you with all the honor of the Gruslin clan."
Deciding that the strange girl with seared hair had obviously suffered some sort of head trauma, the woman asked, "did you catch on fire from the Mosque?"
"No, books," said Macy. She eyed the woman and suddenly became very shy. The woman had on nothing but a skimpy bathrobe, which had blown open. All around them were more under dressed women who were throwing bottles at a huge fire engulfing the town's Mosque. Blushing and confused as to why there was another fire, Macy ran back to the parking lot to help Edith save more books, which were now being photographed by a group of dark-haired tourists who Macy had to run around as she neared the fire.

  5. I felt a little discouraged. I didn't make a single new friend...I jogged around the entire town for once. I even felt like I lost 5 pounds. I needed some advice. Advice from an old friend.

Her name was Jonna LoSaft. and she was the coolest person I knew and my best friend since my high school days. She loved everything I did, comic books, manga, D&D, video games, Sean Connery, the list goes on. The most interesting part was that she didn't look like she liked any of those things. Her physical appearance was compared to that of the music artist Ke$ha, like Taylor Swift mixed with vodka, but still attractive nonetheless. These aren't my words though. Those are the words from the various onlookers who see her pass them by. To me, she just looked like a friend. We hadn't talked in a while but I hoped she still had her old computer addiction. All I had to do was log in to a D&D gaming forum. Logged in, now to search for the name...what was it again...sounded Spanish or somethin...Ah! There she is, JoLoSe7887! Now to initiate a chat.

    JebRex8778: Jonna! It's me, Jeb!
    ...
JoLoSe7887: JEBEDIAH OEDKIRK! HOW ARE YOU??? WE NEED TO CHILLAX ASAP! WHAT'S YOUR ADDRESS??? I'M HEADING THERE TONIGHT!!!

Hmm, intended to get some advice, and ended up with an old reunion. Works for me. Just lemme tell her my address and...Wait, what's that noise...? It's coming from outside...I didn't notice either but it's lighter outside than normal..even though it's late in the evening.
No...way...a fire, people dancing around it...I'm curious. Despite the fact that it's my daily routine in checking out what's new in Marvel Studios, for once my curiosity of the unknown takes priority.

    ~8 Minutes Later~
Main lobby, almost outside. Now to just walk outside and see what in the Phantom Menace is going on- wait...did I just hear moaning in the bathroom..? Followed by a strange, wet suction noise...Where's the doorman...I think...I should just leave and ignore it all...I'm goin' back upstairs to sleep.

  6. was about to suggest this to Jedadiah, when the sight of the local whores walking by the window caught my attention. Kandi was leading the pack with a big bottle of booze in hand.
